Teaching and research areas: critical and cultural theory, theories of space, gender and the body, post-colonial and colonial historical geographies of space, embodiment and material culture, intersections of spatial practice and power, Australian identities and difference.
PhD thesis (completed 2010) titled “Lost and Found in Beirut: Memory and Place in Narratives of the City” at the University of Technology Sydney. The thesis looked at processes of cultural, social and spatial change by studying Beirut in relation to global maps of knowledge as a spatially and historically embedded multiplicity of texts and spaces.
I am an accredited NAATI translator and I've worked with writers from the Middle East, translating their work into English for publication in English language journals.
