About
I have a Ph.D. in Radio-TV-Film from The University of Texas at Austin and a M.A. in English from the University of California, Irvine and previously worked in American Studies at the University of Oklahoma. I'm affiliated with the U.S. Studies Centre and the Asian Studies program and teach in both as well as in Gender and Cultural Studies.
My research focuses on race, gender and popular culture in the US and Asia Pacific. My first book, _Yellow Future: Oriental Style in Hollywood Cinema_, examines the ideological role of East Asian imagery in contemporary American films. I've also published essays on topics such as mixed-race actors in Hollywood, Japanese-American hip hop, Korean romantic comedies, and cyberpunk elements in anime. I'm currently working on two projects, one on the cultural politics of Asian diasporic cinema and the other on popular media and cosmetic surgery in Korea.
