About
Research focuses on the origins, function and fate of the early urban systems of Myanmar (Burma). I apply a range of techniques, from excavation and satellite imagery analysis to radiocarbon dating. One current project involves an attempt to extract rice husks from old bricks to date them.
I am a visiting professor at the Myanmar Department of Archaeology Field School at Pyay, the site of the Pyu city of Sriksetra, where I teach in the postgraduate Diploma in Applied Archaeology course.
